Feeling Lost, Stuck or Somewhat Empty?
Share
Have you ever woken up and decided you want something more out of life? But life’s moving too fast and there’s no time to think. Months and years go by and you’re left wondering who you are and what you may have missed out on, feeling behind on your own path.
That was me in my late 20’s. For two years at work, I joked that “I’d rather quit than do that task”. Then I hit 30 and was left with the scary thought that this was going to be my life. I did not leave to pursue my dreams or to travel the world or because the work was horrible. I loved working, but I was living the same year on repeat for the 3rd year in a row, going onto my 4th. My life needed more fulfilment and body needed rest.
It took months of mindset shifts to recover from the chronic stress and find the balance between rest and work. It took therapy sessions (for the first time) to work on my self-worth. It took travelling to two out of three of my dream countries to know that travelling the world isn’t my dream. It took time, and action to figure myself out. And even after all that privilege, I couldn’t shake the feeling of “what's missing?”.
That’s when I sat with my vision. I asked myself: What does my dream life look like? Who am I? How do I feel? What do I have going for me? Who am I with? Where am I? What have I achieved? I wrote this down as if it already happened.
After that I created separate dreams for each part of my life. I called them dreams because ‘goals’ didn’t hold the same meaning. Then I took each dream and broke it down into goals and then into smaller actions. And I executed, one thing at a time, one step at a time. All areas of my life - health, spirituality, growth and business – have evolved because of my daily actions and holding myself accountable. That’s why the Dream Journal was created. It became a sanctuary for my dreams and more importantly, a support system to keep me going.
I always wonder what my life would have looked like if I learnt these skills while I was still working. It probably would have saved me a lot of time, energy and money. So let me be there for you. If you felt like I did – lost in a good job - or if you’re feeling stuck, or need to rediscover yourself, start with these questions:
1. Who are you?
Try personality quizzes (Meyers Briggs I love), or self-reflective prompts.
2. Vision: What does your dream life look like?
Write it out as if it’s real and happening now. Put it somewhere you can read often.
3. Execution: What must you do to get to your dream life?
Break down your dreams into goals and actions.
Take whatever time you can get to sit with yourself and go through these questions. It’s probably going to feel uncomfortable, and you may avoid it but please don’t. We all know avoidance will leave you waking up next year wishing you did something earlier and you’re here now which means you’re ready!
Finding yourself takes time, acceptance, patience, action and a lot of discomfort. I hope you give yourself grace during this time.
If this resonates with you or you need someone to talk to, send me an email or DM on social media. Happy to walk you through your thoughts, give you a starting point and provide any accountability support you need. Just please don’t quit your job yet. Make smart financial decisions please :)
